Community Car Service Fares Increase
We are letting our members know about an important change to our community car service. In the spring budget, the Chancellor announced a 10p uplift to the approved mileage allowance payment (AMAP), increasing it to a rate of 55p per mile. This long-overdue change is very welcome news for community transport organisations like Hay Dial a Ride and better reflects the real cost to volunteers using their own vehicles to support people in our rural communities. It also helps us to recruit and retain volunteer drivers for our community car service.
Unfortunately, this will mean an increase to fares for members using the community car service. We understand that rising costs are difficult for many people, particularly those on low incomes, and we would encourage anyone worried about affordability to contact us in confidence to discuss support through our Hardship Scheme.
We remain committed to keeping essential community transport accessible for everyone who needs it.
